How many patches before you get a new inner tube?

I never trust my repair! It is a couple of quid for piece of mind. I do have a repaired inner tube in my garage, I spent the time fixing it then thought I would put a new one on anyways.

I am staggered by the waste .........The thing that takes the most time for me repairing a flat is often finding the sometimes ever so tiny bit of flint or glass or whatever that made it through the tyre to make the hole in the inner tube in the first place and is invariably still stuck in there waiting for it's next victim ............ Anyone here throw away the tyre as well when they get a flat ....... just joking lads ;)

Yep! If I think the tyre is damaged in such a way that it will effect safety it is going. Like most here I hit at some point on each ride 30mph+ I want to know all the equipment on the bikes is in good condition, I have had a high speed blow out and it is not fun at the time.

I patch tubes if they can be patched, and don't if it's going to be awkward to do so. I don't have a number in mind. This is mainly because a small repair kit is lighter and takes up less space in your bag than the extra spare tubes for the punctures it could fix, which is very useful when touring or on longer audaxes and keeping the weight down. In general, though, I don't have to patch or replace very often

Me too. Also appalled. The waste of money & resources strikes me as little short of obscene.

Are you kidding £2 and a tube that most of us put to other uses. Also how many? seems the guys who use the most patches seem to get the most punctures in my experience of club riding.

I buy a new tube, although i think i now have 8 inner tubes in my shed needing a repair. i think now is the time to get a decent kit and fix them all in one go.

My online orders always seem to be just short of free delivery so i add a few tubes in to qualify for it.

The thing is as well, even if I choose not to patch a tube it does not go to waste. Its great for making any sort of packing or shims.

I never patch tubes because I never get punctures. But if I did get punctures I'd always fit a new tube and then fix the holed one at my leisure. Which I never do because I can rarely be arsed and I work for a company which has a ready supply of fresh tubes at trade prices. But I never get punctures so it's a moot point. Are you people still getting punctures??

Nope, never, not even occasionally, especially rare during races:
