How many patches before you get a new inner tube?

I did, but I am sure that some people on here would have tried duct taping it back together

Fixing a nasty dent on £65,000 worth of car is satisfying, fixing a puncture is not. Now put that patch on and pump the tube up before you put it back in the tyre, notice something? of course you do it is out of shape. Now that may or may not be detrimental to future performance of the tube, tyre or bike, for £2 I am happy to replace.

It makes no difference , a lot of tubes are like that new but the tyre stops it deforming .

If there's a chance it will be airtight, and the valve's ok, and patches won't overlap (I've tried but with only, er, patchy success, patch and go. I'm not too posh to patch. In fact I've even recovered others' tubes from the road side, patched them up and ridden on them. There's an abandoned one straddling a keep left sign on the south circular that I've got my eye on, ready for when the lights are just right.

Go on, tilt your head!
To be completely honest this thread has just reminded me of the fact that you can repair holed inner tubes! I think I have a couple lying around, I might just repair them and reuse on Stevie the Steelie.

I never patch tubes because I never get punctures. But if I did get punctures I'd always fit a new tube and then fix the holed one at my leisure. Which I never do because I can rarely be arsed and I work for a company which has a ready supply of fresh tubes at trade prices. But I never get punctures so it's a moot point. Are you people still getting punctures??
I got a puncture this morning, first time this side of Christmas. Serves me right for commenting on a puncture thread I guess

I too replace the tube and don't patch. Over the years I've patched successfully but in recent years patches don't always stay on for me and I'd rather be riding than taking off and refitting tyres repeatedly. I do carry a repair kit for the day I've used all of my spare tubes and the fairy is still riding my tyres.

I don't have a particular number but probably around 5. There is some slight movement between the outer/inner/rim and I've had patches work loose overtime. If you figure every patch has a small chance of coming undone, then there comes a time it's not worth the hassle anymore. This is using fairly large volume/low pressure tyres, maybe it's not an issue if you're running 25c and 100 psi or whatever.

Like others, I can't quite bring myself just to aristocratically ditch mendable inners, even if they're cheap.

Please let us in on the secret!! I've been plagued by punctures recently  Too much hedge cutting along the roads and riding through blackthorn trimmings...

To the OP, I have four patches on my back tube atm. If all of them are holding OK, I have no qualms about adding more as needed. As a few others have said, I'd replace the tubes based on age/perishing rather than on the number of patches they have.

Yes, yes I am  If they were available, I would be sorely tempted to get solid rubber ones and sod the weight and bone juddering ride!

Schwalbe Marathons/ Panaracer RiBiMo or similar eurethane protected tyre - combined with Stan's no Tubes sealant in the tubes.
Tada!
No more punctures.
