How many patches before you get a new inner tube?

Because I have better things to do with my time.
Trip to bikeshop - 15 mins.
Finding hole and sticking patch on - 10 mins. (9 and a half mins waiting for it to dry)

You have to take the wheel off the bike and the tyre off the wheel either way so it doesn't take long. And you have to find whatever caused the puncture anyway, which is surely easier if you find the hole in the inner and line it up with the tyre?

Never patch tubes always use new :thumbsup:
Because ... ? I would imagine that 95% of the cycling I've ever done has been on patched tubes. I even patched the 'posh' latex tubes in my old road bike.

Tubes in stock at all times, even as some know I carry spares in the car. As for fixing a puncture in10 minutes, sure you can by why waste 10 minutes.

Because it's a satisfying thing to do? Because it saves resources? Because once you've taken the wheel off, taken the tyre off and found whatever casused the puncture (which you need to do anyway) you might as well stick a patch on it. By the time the kettle has boiled and you've made a brew it will be stuck. And you're a few quid up on the deal.

Those who throw away their old tubes (I've only changed one in the last 7 years myself), I wonder if some of the bike co-ops would want the old tube? I'm going to use the old tube as a tie on the allotment.

Now put that patch on and pump the tube up before you put it back in the tyre, notice something? of course you do it is out of shape. Now that may or may not be detrimental to future performance of the tube, tyre or bike, for £2 I am happy to replace.

I don't have any dents on my £65,000 car to fix though :smile:

I use mine to tie the trailer board on the trailer, I also used to use them to protect headset bearings, help stop water going down the seatpost on the winter hack and into the frame and this list could go on.

I used a few to support my bike from the rafters in the garage - one to hook around the saddle and one each for the brake levers. They can be handy things :smile:
