Before my new found love of cycling on my days off I would drink at least 8 cans a night spending about £10 a time sometimes more but I was sick of feeling sluggish and I wasn't exercising so decided to do something about so tried cycling and love it,now I still like a drink but its a bottle of wine once a week or a few beers spend about £6-8 a week instead of £25-£40,Id rather stay fresh on my days off for a good ride.

Haven't spent anything on booze for a couple of years now, but then on the other hand the 72 bottle rack in the cellar is now decidedly bare

£30 this week, but the previous week it was less, next week might be a bit more. depends on how tired i feel. was spending £50 a week 2 years ago on 6 cans of holsten 5 nights a week and lots more on fridays and saturdays.

a bit like colinJ its all or nothing and just the one is a non starter . it always ends up me getting slaughtered or not having a drink. borderline lush. probably.

I rarely spend money on booze, once every month-6 weeks we eat out instead of cooking tea and I'll have a pint with the meal and apart from a couple of glasses of wine Xmas thats about it.

I guess we would share a bottle of wine a week (with me having the lion's share!), and an odd glass of spirits. So not that much, if we go out I might have up to 3 glasses of wine, I don't enjoy drinking to the point it makes me ill, but do like the taste of it.

We drink 3 to 4 £6 bottles of wine a week between us and then probably another tenner on the odd beer when out walking the whippet, so £25 to £30 a week. Too much really.

I've requested a bottle of Lagavulin for my birthday - work server is blocking me from booze sites but I guess it's going to cost around £40, which means.... er... about 20 tots at £2.00 each, hmm, maybe one every couple of weeks to celebrate something, don't think that's excessive!

More than most of you who've posted on this thread!

It varies, but a typical week is:

1 night at the local - 5 pints - £15
1/2 bottle of wine at a restaurant - £6
1/2 bottle of wine at home - £1.50

Total = £22.50

That's about 20 'units', so within the guidelines, but not spread thinly enough over the week.

This thread appears to be receiving more input from the none to light drinkers than from the alcoholics!

Either cyclechat attracts a very sober audience or the boozers are hiding from the thread. Maybe I can balance things up a bit.

I reckon most weeks, my wife and I will get through a couple of bottles of wine and half a dozen cans of lager / bitter. It then depends if we go out with friends and most importantly which friends. So a regular week would be around £20-25 between the two of us. But this could easily rocket up to £100 for the 'few times a year' boozy weekends with certain friends.

I'm operating pretty much along these lines as well.

“You can’t be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline – it helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.”

”24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?”

“When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.”

My cycling buddy is a consultant physician and he gets slaughtered a couple of times a month.... only on expensive wine though.

Here for rides.
Hmmm. I buy two bottles of wine a week from waitrose. and usually two bottles of beer. for the glugging stockpile. then once every couple of months I buy a case of wine from the wine society and four times a year a case of belgian beer from thebeermerchant.

and I have a direct debit set up with the wine society for a fine wines purchase scheme.

outside of lent I take the lovely Helen to the pub a couple of times a month.

so... err... quite a bit.
