All I will say, is life is too sort to ride a crap bike, especially a commuter that you spend so much time on. Lock it properly and have insurance. My commuter might be old, but it's got Deore XT components all over it !

How to make a high quality bike look like a heap of scrap?
= how do I make my bike less stealable?
Lots of sensible advice multiple locks of differing types, locked to solid objects. Insurance and coded by local police etc. In view of the public and CCTV - though this does not always to make much difference. It appears that ebikes are the fashion now to steal, so for you your bike may be less desirable
In my youth I had a summer job in a factory where often 'vans' would turn up selling e.g alcohol or meat at low cost. One time had a lot of Mountain Bikes in the back (just when the craze started) they were all pretty much about £40 from memory, regardless of make or components. Bike thieves are generally not cyclists and tend not to determine which is best etc. ( There are a few who many specialist in stealing highend bikes, though these tend to hit peoples homes etc)
So in short make it as hard to steal with locks location etc.

List price for my commuter would be around £2.5k as I've swapped the wheels for handbuilts with 105 hubs and converted from cable to hydraulic brakes. Reynolds 853 steel frame and a lovely colour. You can hardly see the group set markings or rim decals and the frame looks like, well, shoot.

Last time I washed it was before I did lejog, which if memory serves me was in 2021.

It blends in well.

I'd nick that. Preferably with handlebar tassels and spokeydokes.
Why would you nick spokeydokes bike?

Pink bikes are less likely to get nicked. I remember having a conversation with a lady in Wimbledon who had a pink Pearson roadbike in a fairly small frame size. She told me they’d had their shed robbed and her husband's and kids’ bikes were nicked but not the pink roadie which was actually one of the more valuable. A rare bike and one that scrotes wouldn’t want to ride!

Sadly I'm not surprised, people can be weird about colours, but that's a whole different kettle of er... colours!
