I only ever did one half marathon, but the photo shows me crossing the finish line with a freshly lit Marlboro between my lips.

Yup, been there done that. A lot of pissed people in 32° heat. Good event, don’t recommend the booze.

Oddly enough the T shirt from that marathon made its way to the surface of my T shirt jumble last weekend so I wore it.

Daughters chap is doing a beer Marathon in Belgium later this year, looks a bit daunting what with the strength of Belgian beers 🍺

At the Reading Half Marathon, the Nag's Head on Russell Street puts out a trestle table of refreshment for the runners. When I ran in 2015, I think I must have been one of the earliest runners to have picked up a quarter-pint of bitter - most of the faster, more serious runners had eschewed it - and I got a bit of a cheer from the nearby spectators. Hit the spot and gave me a bit of a lift! The 1:23:49 I did that day is still my PB.

IIRC there was a pub at around 11 miles or so on the Great North Run handing out beers to runners.

Bizarrely I found the smell very off putting whilst running past but happily drank one when I had finished.
