Will lorries, buses, black cabs be screwed as much as the normal citizen for being daft enough to want to go into London in the first place, however I find it hard to believe that a HGV averaging 8-9MPG & a double decker doing 5-6MPG will kick out less emmisions than my Rav doing 55MPG

Did forget to mention that it the easiest thing I have have ever driven. Keyless entry, get in and push start button, display lights up but nothing much really happens. You have a choice of Park, Reverse. Neutral, Drive. It has a slush box 'creep' programmed into it of 5mph, good for those traffic queues.
And if opportunity arises make sure it is out of economy mode and floor it. Brisk silent acceleration is quite something.

Ours actually still had some outstanding warranty on it. As above, depreciation is huge on new ones.

Possibly the stupidest comment I hve read in a long time. What is point of buying a vehicle if it is not possible to drive the distsance you need to go.

I regularly drive london to Tyneside. A 300 mile round trip. What use is it my buying a vehicle that is unfit for purpose.

Range is a significant factor. Its not like with a petrol or diesel vehicle where you can refuel in minutes. ReCharging the battery takes hours to do

I read somewhere that the average commute is 15km (or was it miles?) - either way that is well within the capabilities of even the lower range EVs currently available.
Even something like a first generation Zoe or Leaf would only need charging two or three times a week under those circumstances, yet people are still fixated by range and demand somewhere to plug in at every stop.

That thought process needs to change.

Mine is 18-19 miles each way depending on route, @Piemaster who has a Zoe advises from personal experience in winter the range is down to 55 miles, which means I would need to charge it every day, people have no alternative but to be fixated by the range.

I had an electric pushbike which needed charging every other day. Once you get used to it, it's just the same as charging a mobile phone, which I might add I have to do at least once, sometimes twice a day. It's all about routines, the changing of which we tend not to like. I would have no problem leaving the car charging every night if that's what was required.

Perhaps in the future you will have to take the train? Maybe we will have to buy vehicles that work for day to day use, and make other arrangements for occasional long distance journeys.

To think i've only done 2,000 miles in the last year....... and this has cost me insurance, road tax, servicing and now needs mot every year. Not to mention the fuel costs. Plus the depreciation on this car is thousands per year.
Its an expensive mileage !
Plus i'm always thinking about what may happen to this car when its parked somewhere..... My last car was hit while parked in a supermarket, the driver fecked off after causing over £1,000 worth of damage, and even with CCTV the old bill dont want to know.
Then there's constant congestion everywhere these days.
Having a car is becoming a serious PITA these days.

Another addendum. Range - when it says you have 10 miles, you have 10 miles. Range estimate by its very nature is more accurate than fuel sloshing around in a tank.
As for charging it, you just get a routine and plan ahead a little. And no more queuing in a fuel station - that makes me happy. I can charge it while I'm sleeping or when the sun is shining on the solar panels make use of them.

It wouldnt work for everyone, but then thats the nature of a lot of cars anyway. You don't buy a small city car if you regularly want to move a piano.

Taking the train does not work, either to get from where I start or to where I finish, nor does it allow me to carry the necessary medical equipment that is needed.
