Why tell him to 'dial 118 **** off' and then pedal away?

In my opinion that appears to have made things worse.

Ahh yes after removing myself from his car door I should have said in my calmest voice sorry to have troubled you my fine sir please accept my humble apologies for this terrible mister meaner by a a non worthy road user cyclist.

i think you would get done for asault so take it as a win ,for what its worth i have reacted in a similar fashion, and truly belive if the result of verbal asult and threats was a broken nose or a fat lip ,there would be a lot less of it, and one of my tatitcs is to lead them on a little chase if they try to thump me , i have found they tend to last less than a minute, and then its easy to reeducate

I assume English isn't your first language as dawesome obviously wasn't speaking literally. And correcting someone's choice of words is trivial and hardly relevant here.

You don't appear to posses any empathy either: maybe, if you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in a similar position as the OP, you might appreciate the situation a bit better.

BB's post actually made me chuckle. It's a style of off-beat humour that he has but there's no harm intended.

That's a bit unfair Gaz-the fecker knocked him off his bike and worse still, then castigates him for it.

I stopped up the road moving out of the way of traffic. As far as I know you don't need to report an accident unless someone was injured. I didn't exchange details which I suppose is wrong in the eyes of the law.
Yeah, just mentioned it as im not sure of the law on it. My mum got a letter for "failing to stop" after someone randomly accused her of scuffing their car in a car park bay despite parking there for 2 hours (didnt happen and noone around), but regardless seems a weird area of the law.

Anyway, having thought about it a little more id definitely report him. Firstly to cover yourself about this incident if he has reported it and secondly to hopefully have the police conclude the incident, rather than meet him again on your commute after youve hurt his pride.

Got to agree with gaz on this , the driver is a turnip but using abusive banter certainly did not help the situation .
I know hindsight is all well and good but in the situation the OP was in i would have called the cops as soon as the 1st incident happened ensuring that the car reg / description of the event and driver were still clear in my mind as a RTA (is that the right term these days ?) .
On the 2 occasions i ahve had to deal with drivers threatening and abusive behaviour when they have waited up the road after cuting me up and all i shouted was "woah a bit close " with no expletives deleted the use of calm reasoned talk with the offer to call the police has calmed the situation down a lot quicker than use of words or gestures that are designed to be inflammatory.

I would get a copy of the video and then forward it to the police along with the eyewitnesses statement as well as contacting the CTC if your not a member and intend to pursue the matter to recoup any damage to your bike or any out of pocket expenses due to any time off you might need for any injuries that might come out later that should all be documented.Take the bike for a check up at the LBS just in case something has weakened and get quotes .
As others have already said i would report it to the police asap and be prepared to defend your use of force as you obviously felt threatened

Would i have punched the guy ? not untill he came in swinging , did he deserve it ? yes .

Hope it makes sense, 3 hours sleep makes me less coherent than usual i expect

Shame you didn't d-lock him. Try harder next time.

Seriously, report it, I assume you may not have the reg and the witness does.

Well done for planting one on the chin.

You only whacked him once? You must be some kind of control freak:biggrin:
Another technique you might try: a guy doored me once and I did the Evil Kneivel before getting back up as wild as hell. I gave the guy sh*t and must have been pretty convincing because he said "I am really sorry what is the cost of the damage to your bike?" Oddly I didn't feel any physical pain until later and the bike was a clunker so I said "$50" he took out his wallet and gave me the 50. Looking back I am still not sure if a punch on the nose might have been more satisfying.

I don't see why you'd report this in all honesty. He shoved you, you hit him. You damaged his car, he damaged your bike.

Nothing good will come from it other than more headaches. Just be glad that you have a slight buckle to your wheel and not more damage, shoot I'd let someone buckle my wheel if I could pop shot some douche in the face and smash his glasses.

Love it !! .... good man

Nothing like a bit of drama ey!

Good job man

He caused you to have an accident, then shoved you. I can see why you hit him. I can also see why you feel a bit bad about it. If ever I have a confrontation, even just harsh words, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I think your comment about not wanting to post a video of him online without him knowing shows a lot of class on your part.

He won't be insured.
He might be - I thought the fella who hit and run me last year (I was in the car) would be uninsured, turned out he was (or at least someone was,I suspect it wasn't the fella driving at the time the car hit me) and I now have the value of my written off car sitting in the bank.
