Why tell him to 'dial 118 **** off' and then pedal away?
In my opinion that appears to have made things worse.
Got to agree with gaz on this , the driver is a turnip but using abusive banter certainly did not help the situation .
I know hindsight is all well and good but in the situation the OP was in i would have called the cops as soon as the 1st incident happened ensuring that the car reg / description of the event and driver were still clear in my mind as a RTA (is that the right term these days ?) .
On the 2 occasions i ahve had to deal with drivers threatening and abusive behaviour when they have waited up the road after cuting me up and all i shouted was "woah a bit close " with no expletives deleted the use of calm reasoned talk with the offer to call the police has calmed the situation down a lot quicker than use of words or gestures that are designed to be inflammatory.
I would get a copy of the video and then forward it to the police along with the eyewitnesses statement as well as contacting the CTC if your not a member and intend to pursue the matter to recoup any damage to your bike or any out of pocket expenses due to any time off you might need for any injuries that might come out later that should all be documented.Take the bike for a check up at the LBS just in case something has weakened and get quotes .
As others have already said i would report it to the police asap and be prepared to defend your use of force as you obviously felt threatened
Would i have punched the guy ? not untill he came in swinging , did he deserve it ? yes .
Hope it makes sense, 3 hours sleep makes me less coherent than usual i expect
