What's your favourite song that made it to number 1 in the UK charts, and why?

And are there any that you feel deserve to have made number one but which only made the runner up spot, an uncomfortable number 2, or the top 5?

Stuck at no2, no1 was that esteemed duo Robson & Gerome, I believe.

Good call. Much as im not an oasis fan that Jobson and Regain song was excruciating.

I don't have a favourite number 1 single, but always felt that Ultravox's melancholic masterpiece 'Vienna' was unfairly robbed of the top spot by Joe Dolce's 'Shaddap You Face' back in 1980😊

Moonlight Shadow was an incredible song. A defly simple tune, superb vocals, top flight musicianship and possibly one of the best guitar solos in pop, yet it only made number 4.

At the same time Rod Stewart was at number 1 wsith Baby Jane. I don't mind a bit of Rod, in his time he was a real talent, but Baby Jane was so undeserving of outselling Mike Oldfield that week...if indeed it really did as we all know the recording industry hype tactics that were prevalent at the time.

Best selling single of the year in Austria. Sold well in Switzerland too. Love his work but it sometimes sounds a bit Partridge.
