....But I've bought myself a turbo trainer. The weather out here for the last two months has been day after day of gales or rain and often both together. My job means I have to be out in it most days anyway and I'm buggered if I'm going to cycle in it as well, so in order to keep some semblance of riding fitness I've had to bite the bullet.

Maybe I'll get to like it...

Go for it. They are as boring as hell, but as you say, 30 minutes on one is better than nothing, and you can always listen to music or watch something on a tablet or you're TV.

Mine's set up in our sun lounge, in front of a large tv. Tends to keep the boredom at bay .
Heating is turned off in that room, so I don't drown in a puddle of sweat.

Can we start a book on how long it'll be before it's on the for sale board?

If nothing else it will make a useful gear adjustment and rear wheel truing stand, as I now run a recumbent trike a conventional one isn't an option.

I never really liked the one I had years ago but needs must, etc. For the record It's an Elite Volaire, recently reduced from £149.99 to £79.99 at Halfords and now on sale for fifty quid.

I bought some Nikwax, re-waterproofed my clothes and went out for a ride. Doesn't stop the wind though...

Mrs Pete has a cycling machine thingy if I feel the urge on a really nasty day!

You might be surprisedMy use of the thing has massively increased of late!Mind you,I cant say I dislike it so much as I dislike riding outside on a grim, dark day.That said,although its very nice to look out at the grim weather as I hurtle around the kitchen/garage,its never going to be a replacement,I could never rely solely upon a turbo as some seem to.One thing you will find,as soon as you decide to head off at speed into the far reaches of the garage,an awful lot of urgent tasks will suggest themselves to you! Aside from the fitness aspect,however well you know your music,a turbo encourages you to discover even more-through sheer desperation!Stick with it-race you

I have been using mine not very regularly but a couple of times a week for the past month and already this week have put it 1hr worth of moderate cycling using an interval training plan a friend showed me.

To be honest it's the same as the one that CGN have on their YouTube channel 30 mins with a number of high intensity pushes.

To be honest with you I struggle to get to the 80rpm mark but can sit around the 70 currently which still pushes me to my limit. That's what 15 years of sitting on my arse and eating rubbish does to you.
