Hi,

I am fixing up a bike had for a few months and wondered about the frame because its very light compared to my other 2 raleighs. After some googling i located this webpage, the relevant info and photo is right at the bottom of the page,

http://www.kurtkaminer.com/TH_raleigh_serials.html

on the photo on the webpage the serial stamped is SB1942.

on the bb of mine it reads SB4315 only the no 5 is turned 90 degrees. also stamped on my bb is the letter N 60.

much appreciate any info. i can upload a photo.

SB numbers are the frames from the Special Bikes division of Raleigh in Ilkestion...........Nice

Frame number is likely 1981 so should be in typical red / black livery. If the N 60 is actually H 60 then that "H" means a made to measure frame. Otherwise the 60 is the size of the frame in cm.

Pics would be great

Here's a SBDU a year older than yours in team colours........... Yours may be a different colour as they did them in gold etc or to order

It's not possible to date it exactly from the SBDU number but 1981 would be the likely year of manufacture as Mike Mullet has listed numbers against approx year of manufacture.

Year Number
1974 0
1975 200
1976 700
1977 1400
1978 2100
1979 2800
1980 3500
1981 4200
1982 4900
1983 5600
1984 6300
1985 7000
1986 7700

It's in a non-standard livery from 1981 so it's been refinished. Either way it's a family heirloom so hang onto it and pass it down. When you have the money you might want to refinish it back to an original colour scheme.

It's light because it's more than likely Reynolds 753 and not 531 tubing

Can I have a pic of the rear dropout where the rear mech is attached just for curiosity.

Cheers
