Yes. I think two of the mods wound Peanut up a bit too much, were rude and deliberately baiting him and I thought it was out of order. This happened on several threads. As we don't have a system of saying what is mod and not there is no way to tell but I certainly read some of the comments very much along the lines of being moderator talk. One tends to get the same people joining in anyway mods or not. I don't particularly mind if it wasn't moderator talk, one reading is they can be as rude as they like outside of being a moderator, they are after all forumers. Plenty of other people say some really nasty things on here and the people themselves don't seem too upset, I'm all for light touch. So what do I know?
An alternative reading is that mods are not perfect, are forumers but they know how the place works. They should know better/have slightly better standards than others. I think this was the case, as they joined in taking the piss out of peanut. Shame really in some ways I thought it was quite an interesting thread. Peanut always was angry and liable to lose his temper, he was like that from day 1. We've all been there and done that, made mistakes and learned to get on. Peanut wasn't a new member that turned up and started causing trouble. He was all right, quite helpful in some ways, difficult to deal with yes but there was enough experience that some of the recent things said, people really should have known better. All right it's not especially surprising and you can't judge that harshly, but I think people really should have known better. The forum seems to be unable to deal with Joe/Peanut/Bonjs and there will be more in the future. There will of course be people that will say it is not the forum that is the problem but peanut/etc/etc having a problem themselves and flouncing off into nirvana and good riddance. I'm not so sure, I think some of the people we've lost/wound up/chastened are potentially very useful.
With the new guidelines in place I think my comments are even more on the mark though. I thought the general consensus was that outside places like commuting and P&L that slugged it out to the death that some of the other places should get a bit lighter, friendlier or without the unhelpfulness e.g. Know How, beginners and in this case bikes, accessories, kit and clothing. All right, we don't all manage it but it's something to strive for. Even the cafe has had a bit of a clearing out of the male gym changing rooms and all the sexist jokes/smut. I don't particularly mind what people want as long as it is clear and things aren't changed too radically.
