Inexpensive 700x28mm tyres

For the Triban which is basically used for riding 5 miles each way and locking up at the station (or other times if leaving for more than a couple of hours). Currently has the original BTWIN 25s but they seem very unforgiving.

So wanting to try some cheap 28s and wondered if anyone had any experience of the Lifelines at CRC/Wiggle

28 is the most varied width. Marathon are quite wide but did me for summer commuting.

Vittoria Randoneurs are good for price, grip and punctures but not great for rolling.

I used their lifeline "prime armour" on my "London end" single speed commuter in 28mm. Was pretty much as good as my conti 4seasons and survived un-penetrated (oo er mrs) for the couple of years it was in use, I then swapped them back to my "road" wheels for my gravel come winter bike to replace some mid range Conti Sport something, as I preferred them, when my job moved out of london. still going strong!

I imagine the "essential" is pretty decent albeit slightly less p protection. i think i only paid £12 each for the armour but it was a while back.

Those Lifeline Prime Race Road tyres look interesting... I need new tyres for the bike I keep in Devon and was thinking of going bigger than 25C this time. I might try the 28Cs.

I don't want anything heavy like a Marathon...I absolutely hated 28mm Marathon Pluses, slow, heavy, slippy (and a bugger to get on and off)!!

i have been using the prime race for a while , for the price i am very impressed .I used to run michelin pro service course and these are close enough and over half the price

For commuting i have been running zaffiro`s in 28s and they are a good all around tyre

Thanks - I have been riding Michelin Lithions but thought that I would try something else this time for about the same price.

If you plum for the Vittoria Zaffiros this is the cheapest I've found for a 28mm tyre. I've never used a 28mm but I've had scores of 23 and 25 mm ones over the years. For a short commute they should be fine.

I purchased these from Merlin as an experiment on my gravel bike, wanted to see how they compared to the 35mm Schwalbe G-one's I currently use. A couple of hundred miles later and I haven't swapped back yet as I like them so much and at this price there's not a lot to lose. They're not quite as comfy as the 35mm's but they're not far off and I find I can progress a bit quicker. Also no visits from p******* fairy yet!

Those Zaffiros look interesting too... Decisions, decisions!

Good tyres the Zaffiros. Pretty robust - both road bikes currently have them as they were cheap. They roll well, and haven't flatted on either bike. The bike in Wales get's taken down all sorts of farm lanes with gravel etc.
