just thinking ahead here i have a new bike on order that runs on 28c's, I currently use 25c's on my current bike. The larger tire size is down to it having hydraulic disc brakes so there is more of a contact patch on the road to help grip when braking i assume. On the demo bike they felt good so i don't think i will change back to a 25c

My question is all my spare inner tubes are 25c's could i use these on the 28c's? I have seen bikes running 25c's using 23c's inner tubes but just wanted your guys thoughts as don't want to end up stuck out on a ride with inner tubes that won't work.

Your spare inner tubes will be fine.

Tubes can accommodate a wide size range.

There are limits, 25c tubes might struggle in a 50c balloon tyre, but the change you are making is neither here nor there.

The contact 'patches' will be the same (area) and the 28s are faster - for the same tyre pressures. Make sure the 28s they fit are decent ones. The up to 25 tubes will be fine (and you may wish to measure the 28s when you get the bike to see what the tyres' dimension is in reality (my Conti GP 4 Seasons 28s are 26.1mm wide) and I use the <25 inners in them with no apparent adverse consequences (3000+km this time).

Loch side.
The size of the contact patch has nothing to do with the grip of the tyre, all things being equal, such as rubber type and weight on the wheel. Contact path size is irrelevant to grip.

Thanks for the advise guys. The bike comes with Mavic Aksion WTS, 700×28c as standard. Anyone know what these are like?

Interestingly, the MAVIC catalogue does not list the Aksion WTS coming in a 28, only 23 and 25, so the 622-28 may be 'new'. So we'll see if anyone is able substantively to answer the OP's latest question (ie about 28s). The 23/25 tyres are 'inexpensive' eg <£12 and reputedly a 'mare to get on.
I have recently bought a new pair of 28s at a good discount from the high RRP from these people.

That's very interesting, I took the spec directly from Cannondales spec sheet for the new bike i have on order. It is a 2016 model so maybe a new sizes for this season.
