Is it a continental tire? Conti use inches for their tire sizing where most other manufacturers have moved to metric for 700c wheels.

28" = 700c but I'm not sure why your tire would have two other measurements on it as normally it would just say 28 x 1.25 or 28 x 1.75. 28 x 1.25 would equal 700 x 32mm and 28 x 1.75 would equal 700 x 44mm. I'm going to stick my neck out and assume that because it's a touring bike, the first one is the correct measurement as 44mm tires seem pretty wide to have on a Galaxy.

I've seen quite a few posts about tyre sizes (ie what size tyre fits..?) and I remembered seeing this on Schwalbe's web-site: http://www.schwalbe.co.uk/shopdata/files/TechInfo2-GB.pdf

Pages 4-7 seem to have more wheel and related tyre size date than one could shake a stick at (should one be so inclined...!) - hope this is of use to someone out there.

As an aside, I've run an ancient hybrid on Schwalbe Marathon Kevlar Belt tyres for a few years and (touching wood), they've not let me (or themselves) down so far. Heavy beasts but pretty much bullet-proof commuter tyres.
