Is it time to change those chain rings?

I've given up on the chain checker and new chains every 12 to 18 months. Now I just replace what needs replacing when it doesn't do what it's supposed to do. I haven't put new cables on for well over ten years. New cassette went on a few weeks back. Still using the old chain.

New chain annually, new cassette every 3 years, I stopped using a chain checker a few years ago, I rarely need to change a chain ring, I only change a cable if I've got a problem with it.

40 years cycling and don't think I've ever changed a chainring for wear. I have fitted a smaller one for climbing but chainrings last really well.

I’m surprised how many people need to change cassettes.

The Shimano 11 speed cassettes on my two road bikes have 25,000 and 10,000 miles respectively and don‘t appear to be particularly worn.

I do keep my chains clean and lubricated though, and replace when they hit 0.7 on the checker at about 4,000 miles.
