Is there a "vegi" substitue for Jelly Babies or Energy Gells??

I have just got a friend into cycling. We did his first 25 miler yesterday.
I was telling him the benefits of jelly babies BUT.........as a strict vegetarian he wont eat anything with gellatine in.
So jelly babies/beans are out.
Are there any good alternatives.
I know about flapjacks & fig bickies etc. but I'm trying to think of a direct substitute for the above.

I saw some veggie sweets in tesco, looked a bit like Percy pigs from M&S. Don't know if haribo have any veggie variants

Sugar cubes?

Here you go. Haribo do a range and very lovely they are too and you can buy them in bulk and save a packet. Hearts, not babies but what the heck.

There is another good online site here.
