It's really not that deep... let's go.

I suspect done as a stunt. I don't think many cyclists out for a ride would just give it a go. I was out on country lanes I know yesterday and knew the flooded roads were a bit deep but knew roughly how deep and carried on slowly.

I had one of a similar depth a few weeks ago, on my commute home.

I got off and waded through, pushing the bike.

While I knew the road well enough to know there weren't any drain covers of potholes I wasn't prepared to riak catching on something that might have been washed into the flooded area. It was also dark when I hit it.

It would have added about 20 minutes to my journey to go back to the previous junction and use an alternative route from there. But I wasn't exactly ecstatic at wading through almost waist deep water in the dark.

Impressive they were able to keep riding but bloody daft I'd say. Aside from potential danger, bikes surely damaged to some extent, soaked through, cold and crappy water no doubt.
Unless there really wasn't an alternative route(unlikely) then don't see point unless they didn't know how deep and once committed just carried on.
