Those have their place of course, but so does fast food for me when I only have a short time for lunch or am out and about

Generally speaking, both taste buds and conscience are better served by an independent shop.

The shops smell weird but they taste OK.
My friend is a district nurse. She says they smell of leg ulcers!

It's good value, and rather nice. I usually go for a spicy Italian, on Italian bread, with all the salad except peppers, onions and Jalapenos (so not all the salad then).

Compare that to the overpriced M&S, it tastes fresher and is cheaper for the amount you get.

OP - I'd try it, just to say you've tried it. The questions are annoying but I find myself trying to say as much as I can to ensure I only get asked 3 questions:

1. What can I get you?

"6 inch spicy italian on italian bread with cheese, toasted"

2. Salad and sauce?

"Everything except x, y and z, [insert desired sauce]"

3. Which sauce again?

£3 for a good sized salad and a hot drink, good value compared with many. My mate though hates the taste of them, not sure how he knows that as he has never been in one or tried one.
