Must say, this was a very quiet trick-or-treat night, not one doorbelling thankfully (in past years we've been 'egged'). And also it seems, our elderly neighbour who was a bit worried when we spoke to her yesterday, also passed a peaceful evening unpestered. Thankful for that.
As to the pumpkins, well I'm always bemused by the huge masses of the things piled up in the supermarkets at this time of year, it was a totally unknown vegetable when I was a kid, but if it gives the kids a lot of fun, well and good! I'd rather see carved pumpkins than annoying little brats! There were a couple (jack o lanterns I mean, not kids) propped up against the door of the house opposite. Quite well carved, but not a patch on some of the pictures posted above I reckon.
We even got a (small) pumpkin in our Riverford box, a couple of weeks ago. We tried it stuffed, in the same way we do butternut squash. Must say, I found it a bit disappointing, the flavour not a patch on the butternut, and mushy. I think the pumpkin is a rather over-rated vegetable. Maybe someone can prove me wrong in the Recipes thread?!
