Two things about the Kindle that I miss so far - the book cover and more importantly, the list inside the book of previously published books. Apart from that I am happily kindling!

The book cover is there somewhere. I pressed something by accident and it came up. No idea what I pressed though!

So you mean the book cover that is the cover that would cover the book, if it was a book, as opposed to the Kindle cover which is a cover for the Kindle?

Oh yes, I have been watching too much "Yes, Prime Minister".

Thanks to the generosity of my wife I received a Kindle for Christmas.

Must say I am very impressed but somewhat disappointed to find it is not compatible with e-library(?) the system used by my local library. Hopefully this will be resolved.

Are there any real benefit in paying the extra £40.00 for a Kindle 3G+WiFi? I'm guessing it would allow the purchase of ebooks from sources other than Amazon, but is it a useful web browsing tool?

Can you connect the Kindle to your home WIFI network and access the internet? Are their any charges from Amazon for doing this apart from initial purchase price?

Can you use the Kindle as a web browser or read your email over a WIFI connection?

Yes, you can check your e-mail over a WIFI connection, although I find mine seems to prefer using the 3G or GPRS networks. The web browser is cumbersome to use but I've been able to post on Cycle Chat using it, for example. It's no substitute for my netbook but useful occasionally.

Yes, you should be able to connect to your home WIFI network. It doesn't cost anything, neither does the 3G access once you've paid the higher initial purchase price.

Helen, I think there is a chrage for using the 3G function if you are using it for personal documents at so much per megabyte. I suppose that is charged to your account automatically!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless there is some special deal for China, I think you are wrong there Keith...

Kindle 3G (Free 3G + Wi-Fi) is the easiest option because there is no wireless setup—you are ready to shop, purchase, and read right out of the box. Built-in Free 3G connectivity uses the same wireless signals that cell phones use, but there are no monthly fees or commitments—Amazon pays for Kindle’s 3G wireless connectivity. The added convenience of 3G enables you to download books anytime, anywhere, while on the go—without having to find a Wi-Fi hotspot connection. With wireless coverage in over 100 countries and territories, Kindle 3G is a great option for travelers.
