I'm with BC and needed to claim following an RTC in June 2024. The value placed on my bike and kit was "market value", that is second-hand - I was disappointed by this. I claimed through my home insurance which paid out new for old +/- £7000 which was later reclaimed from the third party.
Leigh Day, the BC legal firm, pursued the third party and won my PI claim. I think the claim value was too low but the overall service was extremely good. Leigh Day understand cyclists and cycling.
I would stick with the tried and tested rather than trying to save a few ££££ - a false economy.
