Long commutes

Spare bike (or two) - I have three bikes and on a couple of occasions this year have been down to one usable bike, but I am useless at fettling so rely on the LBS to keep my bikes on the road.

I'm just spraying it down and adding small amounts of wet lube to the chain once a week to keep it roadworthy at the moment.

I might start putting it in for a service fort nightly so a professional spots any incoming disasters. Not that my experience with car mechanics supports this hypothesis.

I want to buy a backup bike, but it's a politically sensitive issue at home. She doesn't really understand why spending money to get to work doesn't mean we have money to spend for Christmas.
