What do you use to lubricate the chain and mech on your bike?

A specific make of lubricant? 3-in-1 oil? Cheap maintenance oil? Wax? Something else?

Please elaborate especially if you’ve tried a number of products and found one that works well.

I looking for an effective lubricant that doesn’t attract too much dust and debris, repels water, and keeps the drive chain in very good condition. For MTB and road bikes.

It might be an idea to add how often you lubricate the chain too.

Thanks in advance for your replies, kind and gentle folk!

To the OP: Lee - please could you consider using the search function. I searched on 'lubrication' but sure there are other options. Here are two recent threads:

By the way, how many miles has your current chain done?

I’ve used the search function before on many occasions as there is a lot of useful information on here. Sometimes it’s useful, other times it’s easier to simply ask a direct question as not everyone answers a question in any given thread.

I’m unsure how many miles are on each chain as my MTB is 25+ years old and my road bike is second hand and a couple of years ok. While I am concerned about maintaining the chains on these bikes, Santa is bringing me a brand new MTB and I want to start as I mean to go on once it arrives.
