Bizarrely, my old cycle computer, which I dug out of the toolbox when I took delivery of my new road bike lately, is set to display miles, but actually reads in kilometres, so I have no idea what is going on with it. In its defence, it is an old Sigma BC 900 that I used to have on my MTB in the late 90's, so I'm actually pleased that it worked at all. Having had no choice in whether to have Miles of Kilometres I have actually tuned in to using the latter, and will probably continue when the Garmin arrives. I guess 100 kilometres sounds more impressive than 62 miles to the uninitiated anyway, so I'll take that!

Do we mean the international mile, the metric mile, the US mile, the Scottish mile, the Irish mile or is there another mile?

Considering that metric units were originally the idea of a guy from Oxford, I do find the nationalistic defence of the imperial system rather silly.

Well we can't have the facts getting in the way of a bit of Nationalism can we:rolleyes:.

Data Mile, or Tactical mile, 6,000 ft, as opposed to 6077 or thereabouts of the nautical mile, which is one minute of arc. Nautical mile varies a bit by the poles as opposed the equator.
It'd be the shortest mile at the poles though!

For cycling and running I work in miles but at the end of the day it shouldn't really matter. What matters is that you get out and put the miles of kilometres on the clock depending on your preference
