There'll be as many answers as there are people that reply. And some of the suggestions might be more than you want to spend.

If you're looking for a saddle, personally I'd decide a budget first and make a choice from what's available. If you can try a few out first then that's even better.

What do you want to spend?

Edit: also, what sort of bike, what sort of mileage are you doing/planning to do, and how often do/will you ride?

the seat i have on my two bikes is the Selle Italia XO,
is this a good seat?
Im back on the bike after a long lay off, im cycling about once or twice a week depending on the weather,
But still finding rear sore, not bothered about price.

If your backside is getting sore then you've probably answered your own question and it might not be. The thing is, saddle choice is personal and it's really difficult to make a recommendation that will definitely work for you.

I have a Selle Italia SLR and like it, and also a Specialised Avatar, a San Marco Rolls and On-One own - all are good for me (maybe the Spec being best for longer rides) but that's no guarantee that you'd get on with them.

You can pay hundreds for a saddle - are you really saying 'sky is the limit' on price?

I'd recommend first that you make sure your shorts have a substantial insert unlike mine on a recent CC run ouch!

Most comfy seat I have found in terms of padding without looking too uncool is a MTB seat . They have to have a little more padding .

I'm not the best person to ask really having already bought 3x saddles in the past 6 months all of which are still boxed having failed the thumb pressure test ;)

Oddly enough there are some very cheap Tri/ TT saddles in Tri UK shop Yeovil at the moment for £20.00 . They have the typical extra padding at the nose end and look quite good. Fairly lightweight with maybe titanium rails I think I might try one of those myself.

No the limit, just a sensible price, my sella italia XO, is this a good saddle,
Once the weather canges and i start riding thrice a week my rear may toughen up,

indeed, look at your arse being used to riding again, look at the insert in your shorts, and consider your riding position, I think people point at the saddle too quickly

by most people's standards this is very soft
I meant by the standards of most keen road cyclists of the sort who frequent this site. Joe Public would think it looks narrow and painful!

i don't think its necessarily the make of saddle that makes it comfortable but rather the measurement. you need to get your sit bones measured and then get a saddle to fit. most good LBS's will be able to do this (they sit you on a pad which marks where your pelvic sit bones are, measure the distance, get a saddle to the same width). I've done this with the last two bikes and the replacement saddle has only cost me about 20 quid and they are very comfortable, both saddles were different makes.

What do you think the most comfy seat would be for a Road bike,
and also is lightweight.
Bit of an open ended question because everybody's arse is different and that's why there are so many saddles on the market. You may spend literally years looking for that special saddle for you.

Best saddle I ever had was a Brooks, think it was a Swallow. I see you can still get them at a price lol-I'm very tempted
