We have a dock in our new car for such a thing and i thought it might make a good present for mrs rp on her long car journeys. Easier than faffing about with CDs.
Will any MP3 player work and if so have you any recommendations for one. Money no object:smile:

What dock do you have? Is it a USB port? if so any MP3 player will work via a USB cable.
Ipods are very good but they require you to use Itunes.
I dont know how much music you have but for some people with 100's of albums then memory is the biggest thing to watch out for, buy the biggest size you can afford.
Be warned that uploading 100's of CD's can be a right PITA.

Hmmm, it would be to load on CDs that we already have. Is that a really really big pita or just a bit time consuming?

You will need to "rip" your cd's onto something like itunes and then copy the music onto your ipod into playlists. Time consuming but you need do it just the once.
Biggest issue is finding out what her car has and which device will work. The music is the easy bit

Is there any advantage to an ipod over any other MP3? Would it be easier for an eejit like me in the long run even if it's pricier to start with?

They are slicker than other mp3 players imo.
Get a 16mb version and that "should" be able to hold most of your music. I say that without knowing how many cd's you own.

I went with an ipod as BMW do a conversion. I see my playlists and songs via iDrive. The ipod sits in the glove box and i never have to touch it. Currently have around 1000 songs at my fingertips
