Many thx for the video, I will have a look when I have some. So are you saying the P35`s will fit my bike/tryes even though the stated guide are for 20-28 tyres? So im right in thinking p45=45mm & p35=35mm?

Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between chromo and bluemels? they both look the same and im not interested in putting on a rear reflecter as i run 3 different rear lights.

Perso, I think you should stick to the manufacturer's guidelines. As I said, I don't find the 45s too wide with my 700x32s - but that's my opinion, others may certainly disagree. Also, I like to allow myself the possibility of fitting 700x35s, which the P45s will allow.

You can fit 35's with the P35's if you set them up properly.

The 45 (Longboard) isn't huge, and IMVHO offers proper protection. I've got the 35c Marathon Winters on just now, although prior to that was running the 28c original tyres before swapping out for 32c Conti Tour Plus, and in both cases the Longboards looked "right", and stopped my feet, the mech and my back (or anyone behind me) from getting splattered! FWIW my boss has 35c cross tyres and fitted P35 'guards - they're far too neat over the tyre, and don't really protect from spray off the sides at all. Personally I'd stick with the manufacturers recommendation on sizing.

If this helps you, I've just taken a few photos of my bike - 32 tyres with P45 mudguards.

Back wheel- as you see I can fit my finger between the mudguard and the tyre ...

This is why I love this forum, Good advice and different views. The P45`s dont look that big (thx for the pics). So from what I can gather the Longboards are chromo`s with big flaps, chromo`s give you the option of flaps and reflector, the bluemels are basic?
The only thing that confuses me is chromo`s say 45mm for my tyres but bluemels 35mm:scratch:There is a slight price difference in the 3 choices but not much, If I went for bluemels 35mm then when at a later date my original tyres wear out I was going to go down to 28`s so these would`nt seem over sized as supposed to if I went for p45 chromo/longboards.
Many thanks for your input peeps, seems the 35mm bluemels are winning but I will check with whichever shop I purchase from.

Note the Bluemels now have a different QR system on the front mudguard. Not used it so can't comment if it's better or worse that the chromoplastic.

I put the 45mm Blumels on my CX, originally running 32c tyres it now has 35c (which are actually 622x37 ) and the fit is fine.
I fettled a flap myself out of some black plastic, keeps the spray off my feet and offers more protection for anyone following

Sorry to contradict, but I've fitted 3 sets now and none needed cutting. They do take time to fit though.
The new captive endcaps will almost certainly require the stays to be cut if they are to be fitted as designed. However, if you cut the top off the end cap then you could possibly get away without cutting the stays. The Commuters don't have the captive end caps so they might not need to be cut, but stays that are too long can aggravate toe overlap issues.

Yes, thats why I asked about size. Because my tyres are 32 the recommended width would be 45mm? like the chromo P45? I did want them to look as minimalistic as possible which is putting me off the big rubber flaps BUT i dont want spray up my back:headshake:
35s will be too tight with 32mm tyres. Get the 45s, even 28mm tyres are a very neat fit with 35s.

The big rubber flaps stop your feet and the rider behind getting wet. I don't think they look bad at all, but it's your choice.

Blumels have thinner stays than Chromoplastic and the Chromoplastics have all stainless steel fittings. I'm not sure if the plastic is of the same quality, but I've had 2 sets of Blumels crack in the rear guard in the space of last year. I got the last set replaced under warranty with the Longboards. I've had the Commuters too and they are fine, but just a bit shorter than the others so not great for the rider behind.

Here's a pic of my winter bike with the longboards. You can see the same bike with Commuters and matte black Blumels in this thread http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/black-or-silver-mudguards.94498/

Got bike out an hour ago ready for tonights commute and took tape measure with me. 45mm would`nt actualy look too big, definately going for black though. Just one question, if I went for the longboards are the flaps removable? ie: just a few screws so I could pick and choose which would suit?

They are probably riveted on there, so a right pain to get off.
