Snow shovel, brushes, salt and welly boots all indoors ready for the storm. Why are they calling our British storm a French name?

I got home a little while ago to find a very large scuff on the offside rear corner of the bumper of the car. I have no idea when this happened as for the past week I've either been on foot or approaching from the front where it can't be seen. Trouble is on a daily basis there's so many delivery vehicles, neighbour visitors, and people simply using the close as a way of getting back to the main road without doing a three point turn.

Other than that annoyance, the shopping has been done, the roads are free from ice and I've had a nice little (strong headwind battling) ride while doing things.

Named by the French equivalent of the Met Office as the worst of it is expected to hit Northern France and the Channel Islands.

That is my usual strategy. I do the tedious domestic tasks in the morning, and more pleasant tasks in the afternoon.

I enjoy working in the garden, but near-freezing temperatures make that impossible. By the end of this month, there will be more daylight, and possibly it will be warmer.

There are questions and complications about further tests they want me to do,
Fortunately there is an excellent team (of two) Cancer nurses dedicated to patients' questions and concerns. I will be speaking, I hope, to one of those this afternoon.

As well as all the tragedies and disasters all around the world, there have been two suicides close to where I live. One of my neighbours died just after Christmas.
Then there is the threat of, as I see it, world war three.

I've lived my entire life under the constant threat of WW3 or Nuclear devastation hence my 'live eat, drink and be merry' attitude.
In my idealistic youth I was a CND member* and active protester on many issues (Womens Rights, Anti Apartheid, Rock Against Racism, Coal not Dole etc.) but as I got older and more cynical I realised I wasn't gonna change anything so adopted my 'Tread Lightly On This Earth' policy for my life.

* Caused a few rows at home as my Father was quite 'high up' in Nuclear Power (no to mention a rabid 'right winger' although not racist as his sister had married a guy from Antigua) and he wasn't sure how to cope with his only Son and eldest child being a peace loving hippie/socialist

Reached an almost barmy 5 earlier this afternoon. Postie brought the short white USB extension and a late morning visit to the office then ran into a lunchtime shop in Waitrose. Good timing as there was only one pack of hake on the shelf. Cost of that and 2 pints of milk reduced by £1.50 worth of app vouchers.
Back home Evri had delivered the hole cutters so the attempt to remove the duff screw in the bathroom wall will recommence at some point. Maybe in good light at the weekend.
Afternoon work visits reaching Ripon and various Nectar prices used in the Sainsbury's there saving on a chilly evening journey across town.
Another no missing items Ocado delivery coming this evening. They tempted me with £15 off a £60 spend, less handling and delivery costs and given the ordered items comes out at around a fifth off.

It's been a bright, sunny and decidedly less arctic day here chez Casa Reynard, though my drive is glazed with a thin layer of ice.

Slept really well and had a bit of a lie in. Had a choresy morning, and given the incoming weather, took an executive decision to forego luncheon and head out lumberjilling. Because the heating needs to be fed, and it's still too early in the winter to dip into my "iron reserve" of firewood. OK, I have used some from the log store, but that was because I noticed it was starting to deteriorate - better use it before it rots.

So I finished what I didn't complete on Sunday, scooped up all the sawdust and had a wheelbarrow's worth to tip into the green bin. Then I took myself off into the back end of the garden to carry on dismantling that very big ash tree. I also found a small dead oak, so dealt with that as well. Today's lumberjilling amounted to five heaped wheelbarrows of good quality firewood.

Had a and two slices of toast with marmite after clearing up. I'm now sat by the fire thinking I could use some GT85 for my shoulders and hips. Actually, what I'd *REALLY* like is a nice, long hot bath with lots of bubbles, but until my leg heals, that's the one thing I can't have right now

Anyways, it is time to feed the cat, and then it will be time to feed me.

Ocado just over half an hour after the booked time transpired to be convenient as it allowed for a pre delivery 10km spin on the indoor bike like thingy and a shower in a nicely warm bathroom.

"Tread lightly on this earth" is a very good policy.

I also try to think about "From each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs". Yes, if you being pedantic, it should be "every (one)" and, no, I cannot remember who said it first.

Nb - Just looked it up, and it was Karl Marx in 1875.

The specialist nurse was able to discuss the tests that they want me to undergo, and give me some reassurance.
