First magpie dropped out of the sky to check for food. Bonnie soon put paid to that!
Magpie is back in the sky..

The Czech patient has failed it's emission test again despite the replacement cat and the readings are completely off now. Oil consumption has increased drastically in the past week and the HC reading is over twice the allowed limit. With the value of second hand cars at the moment I had thought it was worth trying to get a year's test on it and sell it but I think this is the end of the line. I can't be bothered any more and it's cost far too much money already.

How a basic, relatively low mileage car with FSH could give so many expensive problems is beyond me but I will never again buy a VAG product.

My friend's old Vauxhall van is in a similar way . It was a low mileage van owner by a small garage. It has cost my friend thousands trying to put it right . First of all valve stem oil seals . Still smoked ! Eventually the engine was taken out and rebuilt. That must have cost thousands! It doesn't smoke but only because he uses an oil additive which thickens the oil . 2 spark plugs still clog up with oil ! I think he would have been better off fitting an engine out of a scrapped car. It's strange as there doesn't seem to be many if any petrol versions of that van about !

I must confess I considered buying a gallon of cheap 20w50 to see if that helped the oil consumption but there really isn't any point. I wouldn't sell it to anyone in that condition.

The tester said yesterday that he hates to see the small engined VWs coming in for test as they usually are burning oil and fail emission tests unless the mileage is very low.

Just to let @deptfordmarmoset know, they had the red label leaf tea back in stock, though not the gold. Price is still the same as before, but they've totally changed the packaging. It's now a (recyclable) plastic pouch rather than a cardboard box with an inner foil pack.

Top tea scouting, @Reynard, very helpful. I'll give Tesco another go.

Very hazy sun just now and a yotties gale ie up to 45 mph with heavy rain forecast for later.
In the past had some nice runs in the boat up the Sound with a gale of wind behind and sunshine. Very peaceful until you have to turn into it to get into the bay and moored up.
Got a pack of toilet rolls from Aldi last time I was off. They turn out to be complete rubbish and very thin tissue.
They were not the cheapest either. How on earth can you tell what a sealed pack contains? I never remember what I bought before that was reasonable so it is pot luck.
In the past we used to get large packs from a Cash and Carry for the business and before that I bought them by dozens of cartons for the distilleries. Never had a problem with quality.

Dull overcast and has obviously been drizzling. Touch windy predicted so thinking a day off the bikes - lawns hopefully to be cut this afternoon and thinking of exploring a nearby bridleway by foot that route planners sometimes pick but suspect its MTB territory.
