Elder Son reports that he had his first call out for the voluntary fire brigade.
The call was for "flood"; at 3am.
As a less experienced member he was placed on the second truck, which waited at the fire station as the reserve. Elder Son and the rest of #2 crew waited and listened to the radio. the #1 crew reported that they'd arrived.
Then they reported that the "flood" was a drip of water coming from upstairs...

#1 Crew Leader: We've turned the water off and there's a bucket under the drip.
Control: It took nine of you to put a plastic bucket under a drip?
#1 CL: No, the caller has now done that herself. We're on our way back now.

Elder Son is now hitting the Gym to pass his fitness test so he can get oxygen training and in his words "Actually be useful in a fire instead of rolling up hoses." Then he's applying as a trainee fireman in the professional fire department in Stuttgart.

He says if he's lucky, in the next emergency he may even be trusted to move the plastic bucket...

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
TT done (with a 10 mile TT PB by 11 seconds) and I'm on the BUCS course, having picked up lunch. Hopefully son no. 2 will enjoy it, although there are some big names competing.

Unfortunately my T T had an incident where it seems a police car collided with a junior rider. Injured but not life-threatening.

Chilling in the garden today.

Was at friends last night, and another friend had taken her two dogs, so 4 dogs in the house. As I walked in, was warned one didn't like men, but the dog was fine (a rescue heinz 57). Unfortunately, when they left their other dog, a terrier went for the cat - literal chaos. Blood all over, owner on her back on the floor, two daughters panicing and my friend had grabbed her cat. I climbed over and tried to prise open the dogs jaws - wouldn't budge so rammed both my thumbs into the little sh1ts neck. Fortunately it let go as my friend rushed off with the cat, and I literally had to head lock the dog for about 5 minutes until the owner sorted herself out. Both daughter's cut to ribbons, cat owner cut to shreds and a few cuts on me. Cat didn't look cut or bleeding but she had to be put to sleep this morning at the emergency vets - poor thing was 17. She had been out all night but they let her in and popped her in a spare room. As the others were leaving they must have opened the door, and the dog went for the cat - no room to move as it was in the hallway. Owner had zero control over the dog.

I have been out on my Falcon Professional to try it out again . The weather is sunny with small clouds and a bit of a breeze. I thought I would give it a longer ride since tightening up the handlebar clamp and fitting a different saddle . I had also raised the saddle by 0.25 of an inch .
I thought I would do my usual ride over to my brother's. The bike seems to get up to speed easily. I was tanking along a narrow lane to Notton , it has a 52 /42 double clanger. I arrived at my brother's but he wasn't there . I waited a bit to get my breath back and then set off for home . I wet back via Notton . As I was cycling through Notton I saw an old chap on a bike coming towards me . Ooh! That's a nice looking bike . Oi! It was my brother on his Planet X Holdsworth Cyclone ! We stopped and had a chat before setting off again .
I did 12 miles . The bike feels light and agile but the saddle is still a pain .

Cloudy sun all day until now the clouds have lifted so sunny evening.
Did not get out cycling as my knee was not too good. Feels like a muscle problem rather than the joint. Probably caused by my efforts to get the punctured wheel off the trike yesterday tho' it was ok when I got up to the loo in the middle of the night.
Tried some iboprofen gel with minimal effect so just need to wait and see what tomorrow brings.
Did some dutch hoeing and then sat around outside and dozed off for a while. Getting to be a habit.
