The Avenger and the Sunbeam made great rally cars. Many people would say they were better than a MKII Escort only Chrysler didn't have the cash to compete at that level.
Nowadays Escorts sell for stupid money and Avengers and Sunbeams are forgotten, and not worth very much in comparison.
Would that be the same one of Ferrari infamy would it?Actually, that's not strictly correct. Good Sunbeam Talbots fetch a fair bit of money, but they're the connoisseur's car compared to the Escort. Their competition record is good enough - World Champions in 1981 with Guy Frequelin / Jean Todt, but they sort of got swallowed up by the Group B cars.
Also, the Fords were the clubman's choice, simply because both basic parts and competition parts were simply more available.
