A day of showers after a really wet start but only got out briefly and filled the car fuel tank as when I am off island next week I may have to do a lengthy detour with no fuel handy on the way.
We seem to have a new pharmacist.
The one who seems to have retired did so with no fanfare and will be missed. A useful, and well liked settler. There may be an element of ill health behind this decision.
I use the term “ seem” as I have no definite confirmation of this so far and do not expect to be in there anytime soon.

I knew someone years ago would join a long queue wit a very cheap item and be friendly and chatty with others in the queue whilst fiddling with a £20 note, perhaps dropping it once. When got to the till he would hand over a fiver and when given change would exclaim he had handed over a twenty. When others in the queue backed him up he got change for a £20. Wouldn't work now though.
Seen someone try that and get unstuck, they closed the till and did a count on its contents against the takings and float.

It's Standard practice to take details and contacting them after cashing up at the end of the day.
You'd be hard pressed to find any big retailer who pay's out on the off chance.
Also another reason why some placers have gone totality cashless.

Could get a bit complicated with cruise liner passengers or prime suspects tour buses. Tour bus passengers were among the worst shoplifters and had to be watched carefully. We never actually prosecuted any as too complicated and time consuming and it was generally small pocketable items not particularly valuable.

I have a booking at the recycling centre for 15:15 on Thursday so I can disp[ose of Monday's gardening rubbish. The recycling centre is only 1/3rd of a mile from work, but there's too much to get in a couple of panniers, so I'm finishing work an hour and a bit early to ride home, fill the car with the rubbish and then drive back again.

The same way as people working a busy bar could count and pour multiple rounds at the same time. These days people of a certain generation on seem unable to do simple maths. I believe tills even tell you what change to give now as well.

The old guy who drove the mobile shop that came round rural areas when I was growing up was a mathematical genius. He never used a till, either in his grocery van or his shop. He used to add everything up on the back of the Corn Flakes packet with amazing speed.

Funny thing is he usually managed to add in extra items and any mistake was always to his benefit...
