A grey and cool day with outbursts of rain here chez Casa Reynard, though it is now dry.

Did not sleep well - my back has decided to protest much of the last week's lumberjilling, and I just couldn't get comfortable. That said, a quiet day was planned anyway. Beyond the basics (litter trays, grate, firewood bins and putting away yesterday's non-fridgeable shopping), I have done diddly squat.

Had a lovely luncheon of crusty bread and the last of the gammon. There's still a bit of fat left, which I will use to fry some onions later.

Spent the afternoon watching horseracing and listening to the sprint from Losail and commentary from the various football fixtures. I also dipped into the snooker.

Currently sat with a :cuppa: and a couple of biskits.

A wet morning meant some little jobs got done.

First up was an office chair for son no. 2's house move. Last night I was clearly tired as I'd put the arms onto the wrong sides, despite checking three times. Oh, and in daylight I found out that there was an indicator on each side  . All built and looks decent. It was advertised on a popular auction site as 'grade B' and used, so marked, but a completely new chair came in the box for a third of the retail price.

Second was a new handle onto a drawer for an antique bureau we'd picked up last weekend for £1 alongside the bed we'd bought. I removed the broken lock on the drawer and added an old handle we had in a box which matched the rest nicely.

Final job was playing with the Giant Rock MTB with a steering wheel. It's now got working gears and a new chain, plus wheel trueing. Test ride and photos in the 'Fettled' thread later. It no longer looks quite like this, although the steering wheel's still there ... seeking a village idiot for the test ride ...

Probably tomorrow afternoon when he's been for a 'normal' bike ride and we've collected a washing machine.

Should I pre-book the ambulance now?

It's been built for Calder Clarion's New Year's Day 5-mile time trial. Yes, we are planning to race a 20-year old MTB, with broken suspension forks and a steering wheel, on a time trial.
I don't do TT's, so another village will have to step up to your call.

Don't think there should be any problems riding it.

This afternoon's walk was an hour mostly on pavement and a gravel track rather than the public footpaths that form a large amount of most of my walks which would have been muddy & slimy given the day's weather. It also ended up with clearing skies and a rather lovely sunset.

The F1 sprint race and qualifying for tomorrow's main race have been caught up with (no spoilers) so it's time for the daily hot chocolate.

I may know of a village idiot heading north next week.
Test time trial along The Headrow or Kirkstall Road next Friday or Saturday?
