Hi All, I wanted to buy a bike since the first lockdown began. I have not done any cycling in last 15 years or so and wanted to give it a go. I am a bit on the budget so did not want to spend more than 425 £ for a hybrid bike. Also, I signed up for cycle 2 work scheme so a new bike was mandatory.

After much research I shortlisted the following 3 bikes in this price range:

https://www.evanscycles.com/brand/ceres/pathway-1-2021-hybrid-bike-934477

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/escape-3

In the end I chose the Giant Escape 3 for its build quality and workmanship. I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

Hope this post helps someone who is looking for a bike in less than 425£ range.

Yeah the Giant Escape is by far the best of those bikes. Avoid anything from Evans these days if possible and as a general rule for hybrids never get one with a suspension fork as they are universally terrible when the bike is priced under £1000.

My decidely not brand new Raleigh Pioneer is still giving sterlng service 3 1/2 years after I acquired it in a somewhat neglected state and resurrected it. It might just owe me about £60 now, that being the original cost of buying it, plus sorting it out and keeping it running since. Call it £1.50 a month and it makes for very cheap and reliable cycling.
If I was looking for another hybrid now I would still go for one of the better steel offerings with Reynolds tubing from the 1990's in preference to anything made today. A decent frame will last a lifetime, the mechanical bits can always be replaced as and when they wear out.
