Indeed it would.
Running 48 x 17 on 1"1/4 tyres so around the 78 mark .
Which is just right for local terrain.

Another 23 miles this morning ^_^
78 inch gear :notworthy: . My choice too ………………………down hill with the wind behind me :laugh:

Just about 40 miles on this one yesterday and today I do like a single speed so easy to ride and ideal for winter roads .

Very nice, the proper winter fixed bike created from off cuts^_^ re your question about descending, see if you can "relax" your legs as much as possible and let it go. You have two brakes which I have always found to be a very good idea so slowing down gradually to find a good twiddling compromise is easy to do.
