OK, I have had a think about this and have come up with only a few:

Ronnie Barker
Rolf Harris
Brian Cant
Oliver Postgate

Can't think of anyone "new" likely to become a "treasure", maybe Gervais?

If we're allowed Rolf Harris, can we have Dame Edna as well?

Not sure about these ones?
Jimmy Savile
Babs Windsor
Brian May
David Bellamy (right wing nutcaseness aside)
Boris Johnson (I refer you to my previous comment)
Eddie the Eagle

Are we only talking about living National Treasures? If not - the original 'mad scientist' - Magnus Pyke.

Patrick Moore

That's not very nice ;)

I don't think it's very nice either, that every couple of years the tabloids perpeptuate a myth called National Treasures, which is a load of bollocks in the first place, and always at the top of the list is Helen Mirren.

Why? Because she's got big tits.

Actually I've got an irrational dislike of Helen Mirren, and the tabloids perpetuate myths that are loads worse than national treasures. I just think there must be a better reason to like/dislike her, rather than the size of her breasts?

But this is a jolly thread and I'm not getting into an argument so I'm now going to nominate Paul Merton

Can I nominate Kylie? I know she's aussie but she's as good as British.

A couple of years ago I would have said Sir Trevor McDonald but he lost it for me with his 'tonight' programme... such a shame.
