Commute home turned into a bit of a nightmare this evening. Riding down here

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=ay...d=cDG496_C4gFzLlMGjg6R0A&cbp=12,34.52,,1,6.29

I heard a small car engine revving quite high coming up behind me getting closer and closer as I was getting to the pinch point, not primary, which was my number 1 mistake, Of course he came past at 30mph 6 inches away from my elbow. "F*** off," I shouted (being my number 2 mistake), whereupon he skidded to a halt and stopped turned into the road I was going to turn into, and opened the door. I pulled up and got off, realising my third mistake when he turned out to be enormous (I'm 6'4" and 15 stone, and he was taller and had three stone on me at least).

Turns out he is a guy who gets very upset when people tell him to f*** off, and when I told him that it was frightening to be passed at 30mph by a 1 tonne car 6 inches from you, his reply, with a lot of swearing, was that I shouldn't be frightened, I'm a grown man. He was extraordinarily agressive, and it degenerated into him saying he wished he'd knocked me off, the next time he saw me he'd fark me up etc.. There was a lot of racist stuff, too, all about "my sort", how racist I was, about how in 5 years all my women would be slaves, etc.. I told him he was just nasty.

I think the only thing that stopped it turning into a very one sided fight was that a very nice woman who'd seen the entire thing stopped and was being an obvious witness to anything that happened. He was also very nasty to her and her young son in the car, reversing back up the road to shout at her through the window when I thought it was over and had gone to thank her for stopping. At that point I got my phone out to call the police (which I only eventually did when I got home), took a photo of him and his car, and he eventually left.

Anyway, if anyone spots a silver Fiat Punto reg: W32 VEU when out and about, avoid it like the plague. The driver is an absolute nut-case.

Must be something in the air today, what this thread and the other.

I was about to say the same thing! Ive not had any close passes in my 6 weeks of commuting in cornwall untill today! I failed to give way, 3 really close passes (2 caravans as well!)

Season of the idiot I think!

God, it's really hard to read some of these posts. I often wonder how I'm going to react to the first bit of confrontation.

Some people are just peanuts and they're part of life. Sorry to hear what happened man! At least it's the weekend, ey?

Must all be Czech fans or something

It's really all my own fault. I had another shouting match with a woman driver last year at the exact same point, and said to myself that I would always take a strong position through there from now on, and obviously promptly forgot.

These little islands in the middle of the road are just stupid and dangerous.

It's my fault. I upset the equilibrium as I wasn't commuting by bike today.

He sounds like a lunatic - I'm glad you're ok.

I agree. In the last few miles of today's 70 miler I suffered three close passes, one of which was from a BMW 7 Series through a pinch point (my position could have been stronger, I admit). I normally keep pretty zen (see previous threads) but I was tired and weary from the ride so the three drivers got a 'Woah!', a 'Can't you wait for 2 seconds?' and a 'What the f- are you doing?' for their troubles.

None of them were nutters, thankfully.

I was thinking about this earlier. I am going to put it down the Euro 2012 being on. Hangovers and hacked off football fans, causing a rise in unsavory incidents! 3 violence related threads in one afternoon. A grim day, it seems!
