Cut an unsliced white loaf in half, hollow out the centre then fill with chips. Curry or gravy optional.

Deeelish.

Further to my previous, I have just had a little sick in the back of my mouth.......

You people ever thought about...... erm, you know........eating proper food? Let me put that another way. Have you ever thought about eating food?

NT says this, only you cut one end off, and hollow it all out (eating the middle of course, while you walk to the chip shop to have it filled). He and his mates did this at school.

Anyway, white. Bap or bread. And cheese.

yes...
yesterday I had... (I also had a 22mile 'domestic' commute each way - done 2-3 times a week)

breakfast - granola with oat milk, 4 pancakes with lemon & limes juice (plus brown caster sugar), hot chocolate (oat milk & 100% dark chocolate)
snack - Nakd cashew cookie (basically dates & cashew nuts)
dinner - tomato and basil soup with 1 wholemeal seeded bap & 1 white bap, plus M&S rice, roasted lentil & aubergine salad (I was taken out for lunch by my parents)
snack - dates
evening meal - chip butty times 2 plus remaining chips with mayo, an orange for dessert... plus another hot oat milk
drinks - water, hot almond milk, soya latte, more water, peppermint tea, more water etc

at least 8 of my 5 a day and I am sure I have missed something out from that list and chip butties only happen once a week max and are usually oven chips not chippy chips which they were last night...

And before you ask - even with that amount of calories in a day, I am still loosing +1kg a week in weight at the moment despite being on steroids permanently...

Gratifying to know that you are eating something I would recognise as food the majority of the time .

Chip butties happened once in a lifetime for me. You see, I'm not a slow learner. ;) In fact, chips (bapless), only happen 3 or 4 times a year at most, but I do some world-famous oven-roasted spicy sautee potatoes every few weeks. How about I give you the recipe for those if you just promise to not give me the recipe for chip-anythings?

I used to do exactly the same thing, it was normally a crusty white roll

You mean like several pints of beer followed by a kebab, the chilli sauce running down the front of your shirt of course .

sorted...

I usually follow a very healthy diet - everything is cooked from scratch, it has to be I'm allergic to all dairy, not just cow's dairy products and have to religiously check ingredients. eating out is a nightmare and something I usually avoid, but chips, eggs & vegan sausages are on the menu once a week... :hungry: (usually Saturday evening). Tonight was homemade indian (on the SNSSO's bung it recipe which is over on FoodiesChat)

OK.....

Prepare your potatoes by cutting up into 1/2" to 3/4" cubes, (skin-on, or skin off). Rinse thoroughly in cold water, a couple of times. Boil the potato cubes for 10 minutes or so!! (Yep, until they're just about to go mushy. Watch them like a hawk, otherwise you have mashed potato). Give the saucepan a little shake after draining the water. Turn the potatoes out onto a plate, well spread out, and put in the fridge for an hour or more (this is the critical step).

When you are ready to cook them, put a baking tray in the oven (200 to 220 degrees) with some olive oil (goose fat at christmas), loads and loads of fresh ground pepper, some salt, mixed herbs, and some Cayenne pepper. If you don't have this, then use curry powder. Heat the oil for 5 minutes or so, to full temperature, and remove the tray from the oven. Put the potatoes on the tray (they won't spit, as the moisture has been removed by the refrigeration), and turn over in the oil/ spices mix until all sides are coated. Bake/ roast for 20 mins to half an hour, removing a couple of times to turn the potatoes over.

These will be REALLY crunchy on the outside, and soft as anything inside. After you've tried them, you'll never bother with chips again.

I have a tefal actifry and do everything in it. Chips are really good and only one tablespoon of olive oil is used. Never fry anything. Everything not done in the tefal is grilled. I have not had any fried food for years.

Chip butties, or baps, or barm cakes, or whatever regional variant one has are simple.
The bread component should be thick, white, and heavily buttered.
The chips should be hot enough to melt the butter, and seasoned as you like them.
Potato wedges in wholemeal pitta are like safe sex. Better for you, maybe, but nowhere near as much fun!
