One aspect to traditional helmet selection is air vents and insects.

Back in the days I used to wear a helmet (I don't any more) my helmet had good air vents running along front to back and annoyingly often whilst riding I'd end up with an insect trapped in crawling around in my hair unable to get out. Ended-up wearing a Buff under the helmet (which would get hot).

I've since understood some helmets have a mesh under the vents to keep insects out but I had my helmet, wasn't going to replace it and don't use one these days so never investigated.

Yes, but the regulations only apply to lights or reflectors attached to the vehicle.

So reflectors on the helmet cannot fall foul of the regulations. No matter how far your head is turned.

Never heard of a smart helmet. Mind you, I don't have a speedo or GPS of any description or cadence sensor....or any techie gizmo. I do have a bell though. That seems to be enough to get me round a ride safely 👍

Wait until they start making smart humans! Mmh actually scratch that, we're some ways off...
