I've been following you for as long as I've been on Strava I think .. I'm starting from scratch so not done my 1st klm yet but I' looking at a week Monday for my first ride at last..

Bugger. It's too late for this advice to be useful to you, but I will put it here in case someone comes along with the same question.
BEFORE you delete your strava account, go to https://www.strava.com/settings/profile and click on "Download all your activities". That will give you (eventually) a zip of all the GPS data for your rides, which you use to recreate the rides on your new account, or to any of the many other ride tracking services out there. Basically it's a backup of your account.
