Newbie advice

Hi,

Recently started doing a 20mile each way commute all on roads & cycle paths - no offroads. My current hybrid is a knackered old Saracen - journey is pretty flat & takes about 1hr15-20.

I'm now looking to spend about £1k on a new hybrid - I have discounted a road bike as I think its probably too uncomfortable - I am built for comfort not speed.

Will having 23/25/27 tyres make a lot of differnece vs 35's as I have now. Are there any views on things such as a Scott S20 FB vs Boardman Hybrid or a Cannondale Synapse FB.

Any advice would be appreciated - I am hoping to take 10mins off my journey time - is this realistic through a new bike or do I just need to get fitter?

Test ride as many bikes as you can. You'll find your answer that way. A lighter bike with better wheels will make your journey faster, but couldnt say how much faster. I personally think more livelier feeling bikes go faster.

I ride a Cannondale BadBoy 700. Not the lightest, but really like it.

thats a reasonable time a better bike will only drop it by agiven ammount fitness is what your after

+1 I love my bad boy 700 great frame and quick and 2010 model is very very nice indeed comes in just short of your 1k budget !!.

Ive had an ali cannondale for 20 years its an old m2000 which i use as a winter trainer with tom thumbs it is quick even with 26s very simsilar to the bad boy nobody builds an ali frame like cannondale.
