It's not cold enough!

I want to try my new buff out, but despite it being fairly cold out today, in my 3/4 slim-fit adapted walking trous, uniqlo 'heat tech' tee and tudor sports jersey I was baking already.

I had 3/4 bib tights, longsleave top and thick socks on. 10 minutes into the commute regreted the fingerless cycling mits and wished I had worn thin full gloves. Brrrrr.

Tights and varying degrees of upper wear, none of it matters I leak at the slightest hint of exersize.

Nope still in full summer gear yet. Judging by the forecast for London, that's going to continue for this week at least. Will probably break out the winter kit (similar to summer kit but with windproof jacket, full gloves and sealskin socks) for the Whitstable ride on the 22nd. Trying to find a handlebar mounted arm warmer torch for those that I pass.......

Slowly introducing the warmer gear. Still in shorts but opted for a long sleeve jersey. The winter gloves were a mistake though. I had steam rising off my hands when I got to work.

We had our cavity wall insulation done at home earleir this year and I'm really noticing the temperature gradient as I walk out to the bike shed in the mornings.

Shorts still preferred to longs at the moment though - managed it until November last year - get too hot cycling home at the end of the day in my fleece-lined longs otherwise.

Yes, it's a PITA balancing what to wear in the morning with the homeward journey. 7 degrees this morning. Still in shorts, too - much preferred. Not too bad - will persevere until my knees turn blue.

I'm finding that a couple of layers, arm warmers and long fingered Spesh gloves are OK on the top half at the mo. Ditch the under layer and arm warmers and swap gloves for mitts on the way home.

If you're not carrying stuff back in a rucksack/rack etc this can indeed be a pain.

What about a set of arm and leg warmers... that way they could be rolled up and put into a saddle bag for a homeward journey.

Same for gloves, get some 2 layer ones and put a layer in your saddle bag.

I am carrying stuff in a rucksack! And no, I don't want panniers or a rack bag...

Thought about leg warmers, but have some Ronhill bikesters in reserve for when the really cold stuff comes along. If it's too cold for the bikesters, I may reconsider.

Good idea about the layered gloves, but I'll prolly get some merino liners for the Spesh BGs.

If you have a rucksack then what is the problem? Wear two layers in the morning, one when returning home...

Still quite mild darn sarf so just shorts and s/s top morning and night at the mo. That said, it won't take much of a drop for the arm warmers or long sleeve top to come out. It will have to get alot colder for me to need a second layer just for the commute though as it's so short.

There is no problem. Just don't want to have to carry a load of extra stuff home. If you read my previous post, you'll see that I've already hit on your suggestion...

I carry a bag in, but only on Mon and out on Fri - with work stuff - which means I have to make the decision, I generally fold up my sleeves and leave the zip open with my "hotter" stuff on etc.
