I had one very similar to this yesterday (though no photographic evidence) - me riding in bike/bus lane, the coach decides to overtake me then immediately pull back in to avoid the obvious queue of traffic in the outer lane. The coach then comes to a halt about 100 yards further on as the traffic was stationary the other side of the traffic lights. So I nonchalantly go round the offside of the coach, slowly past the open window of the driver, saying "Not a safe overtake, mate", and sail across the junction. Sadly for him, the revving of his engine at that point didn't help clear the traffic to allow him to follow me across the junction.
I suspect the psychological reasons were probably the same: Must Pass The Cyclist and/or pathological anti-cyclist manoeuvre. One is an inability to assess the safety of a manoeuvre involving bikes, the other a deliberate action of bullying cyclists off the road. I suspect that coach drivers who do these sorts of manoeuvres tend to fall into the latter category. Whichever it is, though, it's ignorant.Mine was on a very quiet road with no oncoming traffic, I cannot understand why the driver did it, it was a completely unnecessary manoeuvre.
I know that road (and bus route) well!
I think the bus driver did not expect/did not like the fact that there was a bike on what is a "bus only" lane (i.e. a road prohibited to all other motorised traffice).
This looks to be an act of bullying by the bus driver.
You sounded Italian![]()
Don't mess with Swindon Italians.
We are numerous.
I know, our neighbours are Italian, they've been living here since World War 2.
Looks like the driver has misjudged your speed and moved over to avoid any vehicles coming round the blind bend towards him. Not an act of bullying or anti cyclist stuff either, just a mistake and bad judgement.
I was not going fast so not much chance of misjudging my speed, if they worried about something coming around the bend then they should not have attempted the overtake.
I do not believe it was deliberate but their mistake/bad judgement while in control of a large vehicle could have had very serious consequences for me if I had not taken appropriate action.
It was very unexpected as I have absolutely no problems with the bus company before and I have interactions with these buses everyday I commute.
