I'm planning a weeks exploration of the area between Inverness and Aberdeen late Spring/early Summer and wondered if any one could recommend a good cycling-friendly B&B? Somewhere central in this area would be ideal as I'd be using it as a base to do day runs.

On my LEJOG in 2009, I stayed at Craigellachie Guest House (http://www.craigellachiehouse.co.uk/) in Carrbridge. Run by a very friendly couple: he had some good anecdotes about End-to-Enders arriving "utterly jiggered" after crossing the Drumochter Pass in bad weather (I was lucky the weather had been exceptionally fine). Carrbridge might be a bit close to Inverness and not central enough for your requirements, though.

Thanks Shirokazan I'll have a look at that one.

I've stayed a few years ago at http://www.carrbridg...html/hotel.html and had one of their annexed - to the side of the hotel - little rooms (ensuite, and had a tv) for just £10. If you want breakfast in the main hotel a little extra is charged. I see that their webite shows a bothy, but I guess they still have single very cheap rooms ensuite. My bicycle was allowed round the side, at their back yard.
This hotel is a few miles north, along a quiet road, from Aviemore. And the Cairngorms are nearby in this area.

Thanks for that glb. It sounds very cheap!

Strikes me it would take a strenuous effort to cover that area from a central point doing day runs, surely a moving on tour would be more suitable?
It seems to me that having a base at say Turriff would allow you to reach a wide radius of destinations (coastal and inland) within the area, without having to necessarily return by the same route. My thinking was that I could leave the larger part of my stuff at the base and travel with just a saddlebag instead of having to lug everything with me each day. That's not to say I don't like linear touring, but on this occasion I just have a 7-day window and I've long thought it was a good area for just meandering.
