Twitter is great for keeping up with stuff and following interests. It helped me out no end to get to the channel tunnel last summer in the face of huge tailbacks. I haven't actually tweeted anything yet, I'm just not that interesting. A Facebook acct. I don't have, it just does not appeal. I might try Instagram for the same reasons as Twitter, plus I prefer to communicate through pics or would if I could be bothered to communicate.

With my family being well scattered I use facebook to keep in touch.

Since about 9 years old I've had the recurrent impression that it's simply not my world. The world seems odd to me and, no doubt, I seem odd to the world. So, in my own way, I also let it go. As to what I call ''elsewhere devices,'' with which people don't seem to be able to keep their attention where they are physically, I just stay well away. I did catch myself swearing out loud at yet another idiot in a luxury German car obliviously texting away in a traffic jam yesterday. And that was just walking by. I usually only do that when I'm on a bike.

It puzzles me how the modern world and the immediate world don't seem to be in the same place.

Maybe I am old fashioned and don't fit in with the young generation but one thing I have is the one thing the young of today lack: knowledge and experience of older things and older technology. When I talk to youngsters about things more than 10 years old or even less, they are lost. Look at shows on TV; when a question is asked about the past, most young people don't have a clue but ask them about non important things like x factor or the latest boy band, then they are on the ball. I am proud that I can talk about a wide area of experiences .

The amusing thing to me in my last few years at work was the limits on my colleagues knowledge. Most only had a very narrow understanding of their own field within mobile telecomms. When I was an apprentice we were exposed to a wide range of areas so I could turn my skills to most of the areas, or at least understand the principles of what was being talked about.

One of my clients at work sat in front of me tapping away on their phone, totally oblivious to the fact that I had stopped talking and was waiting, and waiting .
So I got my phone out, sat back in my chair, put my feet up on the desk and started my own tapping. This got their attention, never did it again.
Brilliant,well done you:okay:

I heard on the radio yesterday that babies being born these days will probably be alive in the year 2100.

That made me think a bit ...

Training tends to be more narrow these days. It took 12 years to train me to do my job but only 4 years nowadays.

Another thing that has given me food for thought recently is that I'm already a great uncle and mathematically could well become a great great uncle. All very different from my own upbringing, all but one of my 'greats' were already dead and the one surviving one died when I was 11. The idea of any living 'great greats' is quite beyond me.
