Now, unless you wish to furnish me with tales of trivial incidents from your early 20s that I can analyze to the nth degree, I suggest we put a lid on it.
If I could remember any incidents from my early 20's I'd be happy to oblige.
Consider it lidded sir.

So are we forgetting that Hip Priest flashed that 'selfish hog' who was in the middle lane of an empty motorway? It sounds to me like you're more interested in the rules than the circumstances.
I don't really give a stuff what Hip Priest is doing. I'm just addressing the issue of a selfish person who can't be bothered to move into lane 1 and forces anyone overtaking to move into lane 3, greatly increasing the chance of an accident because, as well as many other factors, there are vastly larger blind spots when moving across two lanes rather than just one.

If that selfish person had been obeying the highway code, then Hip Priest would not be required to make that manoeuvre and would not be obliged to flash his lights to let them know that he was there.

Since when has an overtaker been 'obliged to flash' to let the overtakee know he was there? That must be a highway code rule I haven't spotted yet. Please furnish me with the rule number.

Sorry, that should have been "feel obliged to flash".

The shame is that it gave you and opportunity to pick up on that little error and ignore the fundamental point, which is that your selfish actions increase the dangers to other road users.

If you could possibly skip the pedantry and come up with any logic behind your decision, that would be good.

Fully paid up members of the Middle Lane Owners Club get right up my nose. When lane 1 is empty why do they insist on driving for miles in lane 2, very selfish and inconsiderate indeed.

You assume too much Norm. You assume that I would think that you meant something different because you had accidentally used the wrong word. Then you assume that I would be rude enough to tell you this. And you assume that I habitually drive in lane 2 in preference to any other. I don't, but should I, or anyone else, choose to be travelling at 70mph on a motorway and someone else chooses to overtake illegally at more than the speed limit then it is that person that should be staying out of my way, not me theirs. The highway code states clearly that you 'should' return to lane 1 when you can, but that you MUST NOT exceed 70 miles an hour (their capital letters, which indicate something that is illegal).
So if that illegal overtake is preceeded by flashing and/or followed by a dangerous cut in I'd be interested to know which driver you think is the more selfish. Do consider the fact that someone driving at 70 mph is only obstructing the progress of overtaking criminals.

Everybody-try saying that holding your nose.
