its not unlike you to ignore whats been said and recommend *steel frames pulled from skips / cotter pins / quill stems / short trousers in the winter.

If you can find any post of mine advocating wearing shorts in the winter, feel free to quote me. As far as riding steel frames, skip bikes, and using quill stems and cotter pins, I'm quite happy to stand by all those.

Other half has just finished refurbing his 83-ish Galaxy. Still got the rusty patina though so I looked into having it blasted and powder coated. Only £70 for a RAL colour so we're thinking about it.

Look at getting some ‘sacrificial’ bolts etc for open threads, and put a wooden plug in the seat tube.

And be prepared to have to flush sand out of the frame before re-assembly.
