Good job the telly has the best view and I wouldn't have a clue what's going on without a commentary

I guess the other issue is going to be the availability and allocation of the cheaper tickets. I'm hoping we will be able to go and see something but don't know what we'll try for.

tgm, we registered to potentially be volunteers too. However, in practice we cannot afford to take 2 weeks off work and stay up in London (or Weymouth) for the duration so it is a no-go for us.

Just seen the prices for the track cycling, seriously?. I sat by the finish line at the last world champs at Manc for less than £20, so might give it a miss and just go to the world cup round before hand because everyone is bound to turn up to have a go in the venue for prep. They even want to charge for the road race and time trial.

How do you find out the prices ... I'm intending to go to the rowing!!! (and stay at my parents for cheap accommodation even if all the rest of the family do the same we can pitch tents in the garden).
I was about to suggest accommodation, then I remembered that I'm pretty much neighbours with your parents.

Its just a pity that it is a city which wins the games and not an entire region or country. For me to travel over to see any event even buying the cheapest tickets is still going to cost a lot.
Nope, I don't agree with that one either as the venues are spread between various parts of London, Windsor and Weymouth and the footie is all over the country.

It has to be somewhere, they can't start the 100m in Cardiff and finish it in Edinburgh and they need to have a base for the Olympic village. I think they've done a good job dividing it up.

I've registered to be a volunteer, so if I am lucky enough to be picked I'll see quite a bit of the games. Down side, it'll be a month off work !
Thanks for the reminder, I meant to sign up for that too. I was lucky to spend quite some time speaking with the cop who is in charge of the policing, fascinating insights about the sort of things that they consider to be risks.

I doubt that the volunteers will see much at all, to be honest. A lucky few might get into the stadiums but I think most will be wearing some silly uniform and standing around in a windswept car park directing people to the nearest toilets.

They even want to charge for the road race and time trial.
I understand that most of the road racing and time trial will be free to watch, just the seating at the finishes will be charged.

The only problem is likely to be that they are too close to the official route to get there ... so we may have to time our arrival at their house carefully.

Shouldn't be too bad, from what I've seen.

They are planning on using coaches to bring people in to the race course, from there they'll need to go over a new foot bridge to the Lake. There won't be any parking nearby other than disabled parking.

That said, the chap organising the thing didn't seem too impressed when I said that traffic into the racecourse can gridlock Windsor on a wet Monday evening, what hope have we got as an Olympic venue.

And, why is it not the UK Olymipics?

And why does the logo looks like Lisa Simpson throwing up in a toilet?

No it's not. It's Lisa being affectionate in a 'special way' towards her brother.

That's what my pal said when the logo was first launched and my wife is still cursing him for his warped interpretation which she cannot rid herself of.
